Readers of heavy fantasy will love the Crimson Realm Chronicles and this first book "In Search of Pride". This first book introduces us to the Brenn, a warrior and lion shifter who can't shift. If he lets himself shift he will never be a man again because of a curse on his people. Along with Breen we meet the female dragon Ciara. These two are fated mates. Ciara's people also have a curse on them. But she's lucky in the sense that her curse is much more limited. She can still shift to human...but only for the nights. Brenn and Ciara have it tough. But they have belief in themselves that things can be different.

It's just that some of the people have decided to go back to their roots and use horses and live in villages. But their species can travel through space and know of different alien species. Readers should be ready for loads of fantasy with bits of science fiction. The authors were able to blend both fantasy and science fiction with ease.

When it came to description Bradley and Jameson had me right there on the trail with the characters. I could images and see the places we visited and the garments the characters wore. The enemies were also lifelike and they visibly came alive on the page...and that was close enough for me. These enemies are not ones you want to come near.

I very much enjoyed "In Search of Pride" as I felt like I was taking a journey with the main characters and their friends. Bonds are created and tears shed as events unfold. It took me a bit to get into the story, but once it took ahold of my imagination I was hooked. I can't wait to read more. This is just step one in Brenn's and Ciara's journey. Much more is to come.

This is one of those books that the more you read the more you wanted to know how things will turn out. You want to know if Brenn and Ciara will end up being able to have a full life together. I hope so.

There is a prequel to this story (Carnal Twilight) and I felt like it should have just been included at the start of this book. The prequel is much spicier than this book as the couple have sex before they know each other verbally. Magic is in the air and it's the start to something very special.
